Sifriyat Pijama

Sifriyat Pijama (Hebrew for “Pajama Library,”) is the Israeli version of the American program PJ Library. Sifriyat Pijama is a classroom-based reading-readiness program, operated in partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Education, that aims to instill a life-long love of reading in young Israelis and, through books, teach them core Jewish values.

The program distributes high-quality literary books in Hebrew, carefully chosen to invite discussion about Jewish and Israeli culture and values in school and at home. Children ages 1-7 are introduced to the books in daycare, pre-K, kindergarten, or early elementary school, and can then take them home to keep and enjoy. Sifriyat Pijama, which offers families an opportunity create a tradition of reading stories together and enjoy meaningful conversations, was started in 2009 in partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Education and other philanthropic partners.
