Financial Analyst

This position will support current operational activities of the HGF Finance department and participate in new initiatives of the foundation.

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF), located in Agawam, MA, is seeking a full time Financial Analyst. This position will support current operational activities of the HGF Finance department and participate in new initiatives of the foundation.

About HGF

HGF seeks to further the realization of the religious and ethical principles and aspirations of Judaism via its flagship programs: PJ Library, JCamp 180, Life & Legacy, and Voices & Visions, and through grants to eligible individuals and organizations in Western Massachusetts. The largest of the programs, PJ Library, provides families with high-quality children's books, music, and other resources that foster Jewish learning and create a gateway for deeper engagement in Jewish life.

The Position

Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Analyst's primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive and complex analysis, reports and recommendations to senior leadership in support of ongoing improvements to the Foundation's budgeting, reporting and spending processes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing budgets and long-term forecasts, including revenue and expense forecasting, balance sheet analysis and planning in conjunction with the CFO
  • Develop and maintain a rolling 12-month cash flow model on a monthly basis, including payroll review, coding reclassifications, end-of-year projections, and budget-to-actual comparisons
  • Perform analyses on various financial and operational issues such as: evaluation of third-party versus in-house service provisions; and vendor and contract comparisons, and use these analyses to recommend potential cost savings measures
  • Prepare timely and relevant management reports that provide insights into the organization's performance against its financial plans and related financial health
  • Prepare grant financial reports for the program management
  • At the direction of the CFO, prepare and distribute organizational financial and operational data to meet various internal and external reporting requirements
  • Assist the CFO in preparing annual state charitable solicitation filings and the IRS 990 filing
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations
  • Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures as needed
  • Perform ad hoc analysis supporting special projects
  • Assist with other activities as needed


Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities


Bachelor's degree is required


  • Minimum of two years of experience in a finance or accounting role
  • Experience working at a non-profit organization, experience in international non-profit management is preferred
  • Grant reporting experience is preferred
  • Experience with forecasting, budgeting and reporting
