The Harold Grinspoon Foundation has established an Israeli-based foundation, Keren Grinspoon Israel, which carries out the foundation's mission in Israel in general. Keren Grinspoon Irsael operates its flagship program in Israel, Sifriyat Pijama, an Israel version of the PJ Library program.

Sifriyat Pijama ('Pajama Library' in Hebrew), was  launched in 2009 to address both the issue of education in Jewish values in Israel and to encourage literacy. The program currently gifts Hebrew language books each month to more than 100,000 preschools in over 4,000 preschools --more than 50 percent of government preschools in Jewish communities throughout the country.

Many of the recipients of Sifriyat Pijama books are part of underserved immigrant populations, including people living in the northern and southern periphery of the country.

The books are distributed to in partnership with the Ministry of Education. Teachers in participating schools receive training through the ministry and via a monthly newsletter from Sifriyat Pijama.

HGF is seeking funding and community partners to expand Sifriyat Pijama. Inquiries regarding Sifriyat Pijama and the operations of the foundation in Israel can be directed to Galina Vromen, Director of Sifriyat Pijama and of Keren Grinspoon Israel at galina@hgf.org.il.

Visit the Sifriyat Pijama website to learn more about the program.

Sifriyat Pijama is a blessing. The parents look forward to the books every month as much as the children do, enjoy reading them at home, and are delighted that the children understand the underlying values in the books."
