Grinspoon Institute

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library cultivates a love of reading among preschool children. In 2004, the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation (HGCF) launched the Imagination Library Program in Springfield, MA to provide books to kids up to age 5. The program reaches 750 children in 40 classrooms at 14 early childhood centers.

Books are sent directly from the Penguin Publishing Company to the children in the program. All young registrants receive a first book with a storage box encouraging children and their families to have a special place to keep their books. The goal and vision is for all preschoolers in Springfield to be ready for kindergarten with reading readiness skills and a love of reading.

Presently the program is operated in partnership with the Springfield READ program sponsored by The Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation. Other partners include the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts and private funders.

Partners

The HGCF is currently seeking additional partners for this valuable program. Help place quality books directly in the hands of little ones in their homes.
